What about Saint AugustineGrass?

Whether you call them Robellini, Robelleni, Date Palm trees, Miniature Date Palm trees or Pygmy palm trees, they’re all the same thing.

Saint Augustinegrass is considered a warm season type plant, popular in Tropical and subtropical climates, like Florida. It’s considered a medium to high maintenance grass.

I tend to lean more to the high maintenance side because St. Augustine grass many times needs more water than the water restrictions allow especially in the hot summer months. Here is a quote from Iloveturf.com that fits my thoughts exactly. Kiss it good bye. Obviously not a drought tolerant plant.

Saint Augustinegrass is more of a sun loving plant, it also does fairly good in partly shaded landscapes. There are supposedly some cultivars that have been developed for shade, but my experience it’s not that good. I would find another type of plant for a shady area.

If you have a high traffic area though, Saint Augustine grass would not be a good plant for that area, it wears down fast, not considered a durable plant.

Saint Augustinegrasses are very acceptable to disease and insects, mostly known are cinch bugs and brown patch disease.

Growing into a rich thick carpet type of grass, St. Augustine is very appealing to the eye.
