If you are looking into landscaping your yard, you have probably considered getting some sod installation done. There are many different kinds of turf that you can use, and some people prefer them over others. The good thing about having sod installed is that you don’t have to do it yourself unless you want to. You don’t have to wait for the weather to get warmer in order to lay the sod. You can simply lay it down and move it to where you need it.
Your sod installation timing should also be dependent on where you live and what kind of grass you’re buying. It is much better to lay sod in the fall or in the spring in cooler climates. In warmer climates, you could always lay it down at any time of year. But in the cooler areas, you should wait until the weather gets to a certain temperature. If you wait too long, you will end up with mushy or flat soil, which will not be conducive to growing anything.
When choosing a location for your lawn, you should look at the overall surrounding area. Do you have a lot of weeds in your yard? Then you should lay your sod very close to the edge of your yard. That way if you do get weeds in, they will be cut off before they start to spread. This can be done by using an edger to keep all of your lawn sections even.
Another reason that it is good to lay your sod installation down in the fall or spring is so that you do not have to do much with it once it has been laid. Basically, all you have to do is water it when it rains. And weeds will be cut off before they have a chance to sprout. This is one reason that most professional landscaping companies will suggest that you have your sod installed in the fall.
Now, some people like to plant their new sod right after the previous crop has been laid. However, this is not a good idea for two reasons. One, you are just inviting more weeds into the ground. Two, if you are not careful and you do happen to be busy and you forget to remove those weeds when you dig up the new sod, then you could have a mess on your hands. So it is usually recommended that you wait at least two weeks after your last crop was planted before you begin installing your new sod.
Before you lay the sod you need to prepare the soil. You will need to get a heavy bag of fertilizer and spread it onto the entire surface where you will be laying your sod. Make sure that you have a cover over the bag to keep the fertilizer from getting all over the area. Once you have the fertilizer ready, you can begin to lay the turf.
When you are laying the sod installation, make sure that you only do as much as you need to. Lay one or two rows of sod according to the size of your lawn. Most commercial areas require around three rows of turf. You will then need to line these rows up with sharp spines. These spines will help to prop up the turf and make it easier for you to walk on. Once you have planted the row you should begin to roll up the turf out onto your grass like you would for any normal lawn.
After you have finished with the sod installation, you will want to water your lawn according to your watering schedule. It is recommended that you water your lawn no less than once per week during the growing season and no less than three times per week during the dormant season. You should also make sure that you have an adequate number of nutrients in your soil for the overall health of your lawn. There are many great fertilizers out there that are designed to work as natural weed killers. You should try to find as many of these as possible to use in your landscaping project.
